Updates on Thailand
31 Dec 2005
On 30 January 2004, a seminar on “Thailand and the ICC” was organized by Forum Asia.

In May 2002, the Foreign Ministry completed its review of the Rome Statute in relation to Thai law and is circulating its conclusions to all ministries concerned. The ratification bill must then be submitted to the Cabinet for endorsement, and then to Parliament for approval. Implementing legislation is still necessary.

A number of expert delegations, both from local and international ICC support groups have met with Thai officials over the last two years and commitment has been given for a facilitated process of ratification.
A national workshop on ICC was conducted in Thailand in December 2001.

A national committee was set up to draft implementing legislation in January 1999.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs was to prepare a report for this committee, together with the Justice and Defense Ministries.
