Japan Getting Closer to Acceding to the Rome Statute

On March 28, 2007 the Rome Statute and the related cooperation laws, were both approved unanimously by the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the Lower House. The Upper House now needs to take a consenting vote on these two legislations, and if approved, the government would be poised to deposit the Rome Statute and become a State Party to the treaty.
